The DVDAR 100
Last year the Death Valley Driver Anime Review
conducted its Top 100 poll. Hours were spent digging up info on various
shows, movies and Original Video series to provide a comprehensive list
on which to vote. The result was 8 months or so of mdb collating lists
and tallying votes for the final big showdown, “The DVDAR 100 Master List”.
The voting process broke down every possible nominee
according to their respective mediums (TV series, Movie, OVA and TV Special)
and time frames. The end result was 21 individual lists broken down by
medium and time frame. We were insane to try such a thing but in the end
the list came out and we patted ourselves on the back and gave mdb a round
of applause for taking up this insane task.
There was one little problem, I never voted on
the final 100 list. I couldn’t find the time to make a master list amongst
the 21 others to cast a ballot for. Well now I have the time and now almost
a year later my 100 list is finally done.
The list itself will fall from 100-1, building
to my pick for the best show ever. This has be no easy task given the volumes
upon volumes of anime I have watched in 20 years.

Ladies and Gentleman I giveyou the all time Champion,
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman the single greatest action cartoon ever made.
It’s impact is felt t othis very day whether you watch Sailormoon or Saint
Seiya or even Voltron, the templates are all traced back to Gatchaman.
It offers so much I nterms of action and storytelling. It makes no apologies
for its ending and remains one of the most cherished shows in both Japan
and thestates. Action thy name is Gatcvhaman. Drama, thy name is Gatchaman.
The greatest anime ever made, thy name is Kagaku Ninja Team Gatchaman!
A year later and my list is done. I can rest now…
I think. I mean mdb is threatening me with doing a revamp of the entire
list. Hmmm, I really doubt anything willchange on my list. Most of everything
is where I would’ve had it a year ago (yes I think that highly of “Spirited
Away”). I know some people will look at this and be stunned at either placing
of some shows or just the mere fact I picked some obscure show they never
watched. Well trust me it wasn’t easy choosing any of this. Picking a mere
100 out of 300+ I’ve watched in 20 years of anime fandom is not an easy
thing to do. I mean c’mon that is more anime than the law should allow!
