My 26th birthday is only two weeks away. Wrestling tapes make a fine present.
As does the new Suede album, which I'm too poor to buy. All gift-givers will
receive a special mention in the 6.19.99 report and/or will be deemed Workrate
Cru Friendly.

What Worked

Retro bumper from the Braves game, with Scott Hall pictured in an NWO B&W
shirt. Too sweet.

Brian Knobbs, still thinking about it, gets his chance at being carried to What
Worked by Dave Finlay, who used to wrestle ***1/2 matches with Jushin Liger.
Apparently having an angle has lit a fire under Fit's butt, as he throws Nasty
around for a few seconds before bumping like a mother for him. Knobbs bothered
to sell here, and the match had a certain energy up until Knobbs' first
offensive sequence when it started to slow down. This was stiff enough, not a
squash, and therefore was okay for what it was.

What Didn't Work

Psicosis/Kidman is our main event, and the closest thing to a wrestling match
all night. Still you know its WCWSN because the spots came early and often in
the first couple of minutes. Yet they were the blandest of spots, as Psic and
Kidman each had their opponents disadvantaged on the arena floor, but there
were no topes or planchas whatsoever. Rather than build the match through mat
wrestling and such to counterblanace the highspots, Psic played to the crowd
before going to a rear chinlock. Some hesitation during transitions, which is
beneath both of these workers. Kidman wins with a cradle reversal after
blocking a Tornado DDT. While this match didn't overtly suck (about **),
considering that these two are both capable of so much more (especially in
terms of match flow and highspots), this match disappointed.

Well, La Parka stepped off of my milk carton and onto my television. Who says
WCW don't push Messcans? TV Title Shot against Rick Steiner, as WCW apparently
realizes they haven't crippled any luchadores this year. Rick doesn't take off
his shades while methodically pounding La Parka until about 2 minutes in. Black
is usually slimming, but La Parka seems to have added quite the Gomezesque
gut-n-butt combo. Steiner wins with an armbar. Hudson compares Steiner to Meng.
I hope he gets the irony as you and I do.

Is Buff Bagwell so degraded that Scott Armstrong can't carry him to a one-star
WCWSN match? The fact that it's a question I have to ask is telling. This cocky
face thing Buff does makes me wish Ole were here to slap the punk down. As far
as the match goes, its hokey 80s exposition; Buff flexes and poses, Armstrong
keeps the offense vanilla until he Makes One Mistake and Buff hits the
Blockbuster. There was nothing remotely memorable about this match.

Silver King and Villano V make me smile, entering to the My So Called Life
theme.

Hey. Kurdt Hennig gives an interview. Bobby Duncum's with him. Rap Versus
Country. Gene Okerlund axes Kurdt if he's heard of Ice-T, which leads me to
muse that in our own ways we are all new jack hustlers.
