What Worked
I really enjoyed the tag title match, although it was a step below the really high end NWA-Virginia stuff. I don't know if you can really work a traditional face in peril Southern tag when have four heels in there. They should have made it more of a back and forth brawl, as the crowd wasn't really getting into the face/heel stuff. Crowd really needed more pee wee baseball teams and less fake ROH fans chanting TWO during every pin. I understand that Blaze was in the process of turning face, but Pharoah wasn't, and the OSE spent most of the match beating on him. Of course they really did beat the shit out of him, which the OSE is fucking masterful at. I need to see Preston Quinn and Damien Wayne work a taped fist match against each other, as those guys are one and two for the best punches in wrestling. Bunch of really great nasty double teams too, although I think a spiked piledriver should be saved for the finish. I am assuming that the finish was supposed to be Pharoah walking off and letting Blaze be pinned, but that didn't really come off, and it just looked like Blaze got beat clean. O'Brian did a nice job underselling the mess with the ref leaving, as that didn't really hurt the match on tape at all.
Lexy Fyfe v. Kiley McClean was perfectly fine NWA Women's wrestling. Sort of a super poor womans Peggy Lee Leather v. Bambi. Some pretty stiff stuff, including a really nice clothesline bump by Kiley on the floor. It seems that they are setting up a EOD v. OSE feud, and I would like to see Sharkey bring in some old school women's wrestlers to feud with Kiley. Debbie Combs is still working somewhere I am sure, and Sherry Martel v. Kiley might actually draw. Lexy is fun too, and I would like to see her stick around, although I don't know what she can do, if the feud with Kiley is over.
O'Brian didn't actually bug me that much on commentary this week. More low key and not nearly as screamy. Did call a Mike Booth backdrop a "bump" which is a term that really shouldn't be used on commentary. He goes on this side on the Column this week but I wouldn't unpack.
What Didn't Work
The racial stuff needs to be dropped completely, Blaze, who was the face, calling Pharoah boy. O'Brian saying that he was being whipped like a government mule, and PQ screaming something, about getting his black ass out of the ring. That kind of stuff is going to keep NWA-VA from ever getting bigger, and will limit their opportunities even in Richmond.
