NWA Virginia Webcast Workrate Report

NWA VA Workrate Report 4/31 episode
available at http://www.WrestlingNetwork.net

The first set of shows put up were a ton of fun, with Damien Wayne v. Scotty Blaze being as good as anything you will see anywhere, and the cards have good wrestlers up and down the show. It wasn't all good, as the first set of shows were really the Rick O'Brien wrestling starring Rick O'Brien the Rick O'Brien dancers, the wrestlers of NWA Virginia and Rick O'Brien. Every angle and backstage segment was focused on O'Brien and he was doing play by play. You are trying to watch great Southern wrestling and you have some New York guy screaming all over the track like DJ Clue. By the middle of the first episode I just turned off the sound and listened to Who is Mike Jones. Lucky in this series of tapings O'Brien is out of town so he his tan isn't all over the backstage segments, and he seems to have turned his mike down, so he is just bad instead of unbearable. Still NWA-VA is a super fun fed, and has a whole bunch of wrestlers who deserve more pimping so I will be doing these from now on.

What Worked

-Suns of RA v. Jon Jon the Phenomenon and Pete Jennings was perfectly fine low grade southern tag wrestling. Suns of RA are a fun undercard heel stable, as this is a promotion full of great heels and utterly forgettable babyfaces. This isn't as good as their match from Pancho's as Pharoah is replaced by Shaka the Warrior who is fine, and has a great spin kick, but he is not Pharoah. This match is also all about working heat segments on Playboy Pete Jennings, who isn't any good. Jon Jon is athletic and has fun spots but he is kept out of the ring for most of this. This promotion is full of slightly above average interchangeable babyfaces, and they should have thrown one of them in the tag team with Jon Jon, as Jennings is a anchor on this match. The beat down at the end was pretty good, and made me want to see more Suns of RA.

What Didn't Work

-Pain Master seems mainly known for being on the legendarily bad Midlothian show so I am not sure why he was booked. Bad News Johnson was in one of my favorite recent indy matches his Southern WAR fat guy battle with Corey Edsel, but I am guessing he couldn't do much with Pain Master. I am only guessing as they lose the camera about two minutes into this, and just cut to Bad News Johnson getting his hand raised. Of course that begs the question, why the fuck would you show a match that A. stunk and B. cuts out two minutes in? One of the more bush league things I have seen, especially because the show is normally decently produced.
