WWE Heat and Velocity Workrate Report
I have a bit of insomnia and I really enjoyed the syndies this week so I thought I would throw these up.
What Worked
-Goddam Paul London v. Jamie Noble was great. Best Jamie Noble match I have ever seen, and top 3 London match as well. This starts out with some really nifty mat exchanges, some standing work and then London takes a ginormous Attention whore. The post commercial match was all about Noble working over the head and neck injured on the Attention whore, and London busting out little pieces of offense. London is a great seller, my favorite part was Noble dropping this amazing powerslam, and London slightly shifting his neck, in a really nice subtle sell of the neck. Finish was awesome, as Noble slaps on his standing neck vice, which London dropped into a Northern Lights, and Noble rolled through into a neck vice for the tap. Free TV match of the year.
-Orlando Jordan is a guy who consistently entertains me, and I have enjoyed Nunzio's Velocity work more then his stuff in ECW which always left me flat. This was a fun little match, I really liked the finish with Jordan reversing Nunzio's springboard Fujiwara into a powerslam. Whoever is laying out Velocity finishes is pretty great. Jordan should be getting a Smackdown push he has gotten really fun.
-Spike Dudley v. Rene Dupree was nifty. I really like Dupree's dance when it is done over a downed opponent. Dupree actually takes the biggest Attention whore in this match which was strange, Spike also didn't do very many rollups. Dupree has the best WWE DVD I have ever seen, although that may just be because crazy ass Spike Dudley is taking it.
-Onyx is David Young trained and takes nice bumps and sells well, Stevie Richards is one of the best guys in the WWE at selling and bumping. Neither guy has much offense, and a match between the two suffers for that. They would make a nice tag team though. I don't get Stevie using Foley's finish, now that Foley has returned, nobody watches Heat but me and Tom anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.
-I have never liked the Dudley's, not in ECW, not in WWE, not those couple of matches in FMW. However they are riding this crazy Heat awesome match streak. This match was also better then anything on the main shows this week, as you got the sense this really meant something to the wrestlers. Bubba was amazing in this, really great selling, and nice looking offense, including a great delayed German suplex and a really awesome spear. I usually can't stand Storm, but he was mostly bumping in this and leaving Venis to do most of the offense. Bubba is really great as face in peril here, one little thing I especially dug was after Bubba hit his spear, and they did the race to the tag spot, Bubba was crawling for the tag and Storm was crawling to stop him, not crawling for his own tag. Nice change up of a classic spot. It is too bad that the Dudley's will probably take the tag belts, as I would rather see them stuck having great long matches on Heat, then back on RAW where they are all about rolling out their tired signature spots.
What Didn't Work
-Josh Matthews looks too much like Aaron Carter for my comfort this week,
-I cannot stand Al Snow on commentary, for a guy who spent 15 years or so on the indy circut, he isn't afraid to shit on every indy guy working on his show. His tired and lame Babagonicus joke is incredibly disrespectful to hardworking guys just trying to get a break. I hope someone potatoes that prick on a JAPW show or something.
-I watched Rhyno v. Billy Gunn on FF, but I saw alot of bearhugs, no bodyscissors and Billy Gunn going over. I figure it is safe down here
