(0:00:00) New Japan - Silver
King/Dr. Wagner, Jr./El Samurai vs. Koji Kanemoto/Minoru Tanaka/Tetsuhito
Takawa (2/18/01)
Wild six man tag match from the resurgent New
Japan Juniors. Tanaka and Silver King have some crazy magic and their work
against each other is just great. Really neat stuff.
(0:20:24) NWA – Terry Funk vs.
Eddy Guerrero (5/20/89)
1989 Terry Funk was probably on the hottest heel
run I can remember as he was just awesome at playing the insane heel. Here
he wrestles a super young Eddy Guerrero. They have a hell of a sqaush match
with Eddy bumping like a freak and even hitting a plancha. Great Terry
post match promo too.
(0:24:32) GAEA - Mayumi Ozaki/Devil
Masami vs. Sugar Sato/Chiyako Nagashima
Another great tag match from Sato and Nagashima
who are the best team in the world. Masami is on some freakish menopausal
wrestling run, and she just rules it in this match.
(0:46:09) ECWA - American Dragon
vs. Spanky (2/24/01)
American Dragon comes into Delaware and delivers
one of the greatest one night performances in wrestling history. He opens
up with a neat match against fellow Micheals' Academy running buddy Spanky
and they chop the shit out of each other, while Dragon breaks out the swank
arm work
(0:57:02) ECWA - American Dragon
vs. Reckless Youth (2/24/01)
Dragon and Reckless go super All Japan with the
worlds greatest lariat and lots of cool near falls. Youth’s best match
ever and really great overall. Totally had me marking out live.
(1:07:54) ECWA - American Dragon
vs. Low-Ki (2/24/01)
One of the stiffest US Indy matches ever. They
work almost a BattlArts style - just punting the crap out of each other
and slapping on freaky submissions. Legitimate MOTY contender.
(1:23:53) EMLL - Fuerza Guerrerra
vs. Octagon (1/31/91)
Fuerza had some sort of rudo magic, as he could
always make the mediocre Octagon look world beating. This is an awesome
lucha singles match, with tons of blood, great wrestling, huge dives and
the awesome Fuerza defining the job of a rudo.
(1:57:21) RINGS - Volk Han vs.
Yoshiya Yammamoto (12/19/95)
Volk Han is like good bourbon, the first time
you drink it you might not like it, but soon you find yourself ordering
it at every bar you go to, and all of sudden you look down on everyone
who dismisses it. This match is like single malt.
(2:12:23) NJ - Minoru Tanaka/Koji
Kanemoto vs. Shinjiro Ohtani/Tetsihito Takiawa (10/11/99)
Great NJ tag titles match with the awesome team
of Tanaka and Kanemoto, plus the still junior, still awesome Ohtani. Great
tag match
(2:38:06) MPRO - James Mason/Bret
Como vs. Men’s Teioh/Tiger Mask IV (1/22/01)
Mason and Men’s Teioh break out the freaky Brit
mat wrestling and I lose it. Nothing in the world is odder and cooler then
British mat work and James Mason brings the weirdness.
(2:54:40) BattlARTS - Daisuke
Ikeda vs. Yuki Ishikawa (5/26/98)
The Steamboat vs. Flair of BattlArts bangs out
another classic, not as awesome a wrestling match as the YGB ’99 final,
but is even stiffer. Just an incredibly violent brawl, with cringingly
stiff kicks and headbutts.
(3:12:48) APW - West Side Playaz
vs. Jardi Franz/Vinny Massarro (5/6/00)
One of my favorite Indy matches of 2000. Nice
standard US tag work in the beginning, then a super hot finish with tons
of big spots and near falls. Fun stuff.
(3:42:33) EMLL - El Signo/Blue
Panther/Fuerza Guerrerra vs. Safari/Olimpico/Mr. Niebla (3/30/01)
Classic legends vs. youngsters lucha match, with
the oldsters taking to the mat HARD, and the young guys doing some big
time flying. Panther shows why he is a top ten worker and just rules it
the whole match.
(4:09:08) Zero-One - Naohiro
Hoshikawa vs. Naomichi Marafuji (3/2/01)
MOTYC from the first ZERO-ONE show. Just incredible
stuff, with both guys delivering star making performances. Hoshikawa delivers
hard, with nasty kicks and great pacing for Marafuji’s highspots. Best
juniors singles match in a while.
(4:30:14) AJW – Momoe Nakanishi/Nanane
Takahashi vs. Mima Shimoda/Etsuko Mita (7/16/00)
The young girls from AJW step up and have a really
good brawl with LCO, less irritating then some LCO matches, with good spots,
drama and blood.
(5:01:04) UWFI - Kauzo Yamazaki
vs. Masahito Kakihara (11/30/94)
Awesome UWFI match with really great psychology
and use of the points system, may not be as technically great as the Takada
match, but it may be my favorite UWFI match for drama and stiffness.
(5:16:46) WWF – Dynamite Kid
vs. Bret Hart (1985)
Hey guess what, this was really great, who would
have thought? Kid drops a knee off the top rope and crushes his face.
(5:29:13) NJ - Shinya Makabe/Jushin
Liger vs. Minoru Tanaka/Koji Kanemoto (9/12/00)
This my favorite of the Tanaka + Koji tag matches.
Liger is just awesome and Makabe really holds his own. Really neat stuff.
(5:53:09) Monterey - El Dandy/Blue
Panther/Shocker/Zumbido vs. Tarzan Boy/Negro Casas/Antifaz Del Norte/La
Parka (10/00)
Great 8 man lucha match from the usually underwhelming
Monterey, all the guys do great and El Dandy looks awesome, dives, matwork,
comedy, lots of fun stuff.
(6:24:38) Zero-One - Takeshi
Suigara vs. Alexander Otsuka (4/18/01)
Suigara is the funnest new guy in NOAH and Alexander
Otsuka is one of the kingpins of BattlARTS. They do a very amature style
match and then decide to bust each other legit with headbutts. Really funny
and nasty.
(6:37:45) APW - Christopher Daniels/Mike
Modest vs. Westside Playaz 2000 (12/16/00)
The two best unsigned wrestlers in the world
team up and have a 30 minute match with the neat WSP2K. I was at this match
live and it was my live MOTY. Holds up really well on tape too.
(7:18:46) BattlARTS – Tiger Mask
IV/Alexander Otsuka vs. Carl Malenko/Ikuto Hidaka (2/13/01)
Four of the best in BatBat have a lucha flavored
shoot fest. Carl Malenko is the best worker you haven’t seen enough of,
everyone else is awesome. Hidaka is getting so good
(7:45:15) WAR - Dean Malenko/Ultimo
Dragon vs. El Samurai/Chris Beniot (6/15/93)
How can you go wrong? You can’t, four of the
best ever. Beniot vs. Malenko, Beniot vs. Dragon. Good shit daddy.
